    The Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society (SMAS) is an Astronomical League-affiliated club for astronomy enthusiasts in the East Tennessee area. SMAS provides monthly meetings at Pellissippi State Technical Community College in Knoxville, star parties at several locations, and a members-only Yahoo group. SMAS also has several loaner scopes for members including a 10-inch dobsonian, a 127mm Burgess Optical achromatic refractor with an LXD55 mount, and our newly refurbished 20-inch Dobsonian we term "Sasquatch."

Club business
7:45: Presentation by Dr. Jae Park, Professor at UT Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology Department. Jae's presentation is titled: "Biological experiments in space" and will cover several ongoing experiments with biological materials in the International Space Station.

8:30: Observations reports from members - anyone have photos of Mars?

8:45: Planning for our yearly star party at Cades Cove (September 15).
